For more than 70 years, thousands of brides have traveled to Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City to find their wedding day looks. From the moment you walk through the doors, you’ll feel the magic of Kleinfeld. Not only does Kleinfeld have 30,000 square feet filled with the largest selection of wedding dresses in the world, it also has the greatest professional staff of over 200 employees who are dedicated to finding and perfecting your bridal look.
Congratulations, you just got engaged! Now comes the fun part—shopping for your dream wedding dress. With countless designers to choose from, hundreds of fabrics and thousands of styles, it can get pretty overwhelming trying to figure out what you’re looking for. That’s why we’ve rounded up our top tips to avoid dress stress, so that you can really enjoy a once in a lifetime experience shopping for your special day.
Try before you buy.
We definitely suggest trying on different silhouettes before coming to Kleinfeld. This way, you know what you do like, and what you don’t! This will help to narrow down the list of styles you might be interested in. Even if you’re unsure about fabrics and details like neckline and sleeves, you’ll know whether or not mermaid silhouettes work for you, and if ball gowns are off the table.
Shop during quiet times.
Here at Kleinfeld, weekends are especially busy. With that, if you’re able to, definitely consider shopping Tuesdays through Thursdays, as the salon is quieter and you’ll have a more intimate experience.
Think about who you want to bring.
Sometimes more opinions can make it harder to make a decision, so definitely think about bringing only your nearest and dearest to your appointment. Keep things a surprise to your guests—don’t invite too many people so you can keep the magic alive!
Be open minded.
Don’t judge a dress based on how it looks on the hanger. Trust your consultant to listen to your wants and needs, because they’ll most likely pull a dress you might not think you’ll like, but end up totally loving! Be open minded—you might surprise yourself!
Be prepared!
Come with a budget in mind—the last thing we want is for you to fall in love with a gown that’s out of your price point! Also factor in alterations, any headpieces, veils, and jewelry, and possibly shipping your dress. The more prepared you are, the less stressful shopping will be.
WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR WEDDING DRESS BUDGET
Trust alterations.
When you say “Yes!”, a bridal manager will take 3 measurements—your bust, waist and hip. From there, they will order your gown to your largest measurement. With that, don’t be alarmed when your dress arrives for your first fitting and it’s too big! Trust our team of over 100 alterations experts to spend 2-3 fittings pinning, sewing and fitting your gown to your body, and our quality control team to make sure no bead, sequin, appliqué or crystal is out of place.
