Whether you’re the maid of honor, a bridesmaid, a bestie or a sibling, the bride-to-be relies on her squad to support her during the wedding planning process—especially during wedding dress shopping! Are you shopping with the bride for the big day? If so, get the scoop on our top tips for tackling wedding dress shopping as a friend, below.
Help her gather inspiration.
Before you accompany her to her appointment, help the bride gather inspiration. Whether it be saving pins on Pinterest, liking photos on Instagram, or going through our dress gallery, this is your time to help her figure out what she might be looking for. This will help her mentally prepare for shopping and will relieve any stress or nervousness she might be feeling, but will also get her (and you!) excited for the experience.
Take photos & videos.
While wedding dress shopping can be pretty distracting (and super fun!), don’t forget to take lots and lots of photos! Get plenty of snaps of her trying on every dress—even the styles she dislikes, so she knows for any future shopping trips. She’ll appreciate these photos after the fact to commemorate the day she found her dream wedding dress, and you’ll love looking back at the once-in-a-lifetime experience you shared together.
Give advice when needed.
If she’s unsure about something, whether it be how a certain silhouette looks on her, if she should go with beading, lace or simple satin, you’re here to help! Definitely give your advice and opinion if she asks. After all, she wants you there to be her sounding board and to help her make a very special decision for a very special day.
Be available for other appointments.
Once she says yes, your job doesn’t stop there! If you accompanied her to her bridal selection appointment, she’ll likely ask you to come along to her alterations fitting appointments as well, especially if you’re her maid of honor or bridesmaid. She may ask you to help her learn how to bustle her dress for her reception, or may need your help deciding on a veil or headpiece to go along with her dress as well.
Be supportive.
Most importantly, through the entire process, be as supportive as possible. You may not love the flowers she chose, or you thought the second dress she tried on fit her style more, but at the end of the day, as a friend, you are there to support the bride and her soon-to-be spouse. One day, she’ll do the same for you!
