After a rough summer of both Amanda and John losing their grandfathers, it was a bittersweet feeling going into the holidays. John had a little trick up his sleeve to end the year on a high note. On Christmas morning, Amanda was at her grandmother’s house having breakfast with her mom, brother, cousins, aunts and uncle. John was at his house opening presents with his parents and sister. Amanda assumed she wouldn’t see John until later in the afternoon. John and Amanda’s mom (Lori) were working together to get Amanda back at her apartment where he would surprise her. Lori told Amanda that she needed to go turn up the heat for the downstairs tenants. As Amanda walked up to the door, she found a note from John which stated, “Forget about the thermostat. Meet me in the living room. Love you more, John.” A few minutes later, John proposed and made Amanda the happiest girl.
About the Dress
Kleinfeld Consultant:
Judith
I always knew I wanted to go to Kleinfeld to find my dream dress. After years of binge watching Say Yes to the Dress, I was so excited to make my appointment. I previously went to a small boutique location in Westchester, New York to get an idea on what style I would want. I ruled out satin dresses and ballgowns. I decided I wanted a strapless lace dress, either fit and flare or mermaid. When I made my appointment I didn’t know it would be during a Pnina trunk show (brides—always check trunk show schedules for your favorite designers—it is a way to save a little money and you may even get to meet the designer!). At first, I didn’t think I would be a Pnina Tornai bride. I loved watching other brides try on her dresses but thought they were a little too over the top for me. Luckily, my consultant, Judith, knew the store inside and out. Once I showed her some pictures, we walked around the floor and she helped me pick out about eight dresses. I tried on a strapless, sweetheart Pnina fit and flare and I instantly fell in love. When I tried on the other dresses, they could not compare. At one point, I pulled my mom into the dressing room and started to cry. I didn’t want the first dress I tried on to be the one! I wanted to try on as many dresses as I could but when you know you know. When an accessories consultant came in with a veil, it sealed the deal. I walked out of my dressing room and went into the Pnina boutique. Pnina herself greeted me and asked “Do you say yes to the dress?” Besides saying yes to John, saying yes to the dress was the easiest “yes” of my life.
During my first fitting, I also purchased Badgley Mischka shoes, Thomas Knoll earrings and a bracelet. The staff at Kleinfeld made my experience of perfecting my bridal look so easy and fun.
About the Wedding
Married:
July 7, 2018 //
Location:
St. Barnabas Church Bronx, New York //
Venue:
Marina del Rey Bronx, New York
John and I got married on July 7th, 2018—which luckily was the perfect weather day for a summer New York day (it wasn’t too hot and the sun was shining). We got married at St. Barnabas in a Catholic Church ceremony. We included family and close friends by having them do readings and bring up the gift. One friend even gifted us with her playing the harp as our guests walked in and during our processional. We ensured it was personalized through the readings we chose, the programs we ordered, the floral decor and (my personal favorite) a customized runner. We ordered the runner through Original Runner Company. They helped us match the runner with our invitation and program. After almost a year after I said “yes” to the dress, I was so excited for John to see me walk down the aisle. There were so many highlights for us – from seeing each other as I walked down the aisle to saying “I Do” to putting on the rings to our first married kiss. After we took pictures with family and bridal party at the Church and in front of my family’s hardware store, it was time to head to the Marina del Rey. The Marina del Rey is a beautiful catering venue with views of the city skyline. When 7:30pm arrived, it was time for the fun to begin. We danced to “Then” by Brad Paisley for our first dance. Our main goal was for everyone to enjoy the day—including ourselves. We danced, had fun in the photo booth, watched fire works that John’s mother set up for the night, enjoyed the cigar roller station with a whiskey bar and ate as much as we could during the Viennese hour. I can honestly say I had the time of my life during our reception. I know that also has to do with the confidence I felt in my Pnina dress. Thank you, especially, to the alterations department for tailoring the dress to fit me perfectly.
