Engaged:
October 10, 2015
Rob and I had been dating 7 years (5.5 years long distance) and had been living together 6 months. He was going on a Boys Trip to Ft. Lauderdale, where he previously lived, to visit friends. At the last minute he suggested I come along in case he has some downtime and to enjoy the warm weather compared to the Michigan fall.
We were spending a lot of time with our friend, Scott, who is a captain of a private yacht. Saturday night, after a day in the sun and sand, we were all supposed to take the tender to dinner along the Intercoastal. At the last minute, Scott had to handle an issue with one of his crew members. Rob and I went on without him, assuming he would meet us at the restaurant.
Halfway down the Intercoastal, enjoying a slow cruise, Rob suggested that we take a picture with the sunset in the background. He never leaves home without his go-pro, so it wasn’t unusual he had that to set up the shot. Little did I know it was now taking a video of what was about to be the biggest surprise of my life!
As I stand to pose for the picture, he turns to me and tells me how much he loves me. He then gets down on one knee and shock takes over! I don’t remember all of what he said, but the next thing I know he has a ring and is asking me to marry him! It was the biggest surprise and the best moment of my life. After lots of hugging, crying, and kissing, Rob goes to the back of the boat to grab a hidden bottle of champagne and glasses to toast to the next stage of our lives!
