Jimmy and I have been together since July 30th 2008—so on our wedding weekend we had been together for just about 11 years! We are high school sweethearts. Jimmy had said he would never propose on an “expected” day, like a holiday…so when he asked me on Christmas Eve I truly had no idea. Every year we do a secret Santa exchange with our friends- so we had a house full on Christmas eve morning. We ate lots of great food and exchanged our gifts like normal. I was the last to open my gift – inside was a coffee cup that said “Aussie Mom” since we have 2 and inside the mug was another wrapped gift. I unwrapped it to find an empty Lennon’s WB Wilcox jewelers box. As I looked around laughing, confused, but nervous… he got down on one knee as the ring was in his pocket! It was the most perfect surprise and then we got to celebrate immediately with friends—before seeing our families that night for Christmas Eve mass and fun festivities! He had asked my mom, dad, and grandparents at breakfast about a month before. This long anticipated engagement and wedding was finally happening! Our families, friends, and of course ourselves were SO excited to start planning!

About the Wedding
Location:
Utica, NY //
Venue:
171 Genesse St
We got married at St. John the Evangelist in New Hartford—our family church, the same church where my mom and aunts had gotten married. My cousin Mari played the flute during the ceremony. Family made the ceremony personal from opening up the doors as I made my way down the aisle, to beautiful readings. Our reception was a few short minutes away in downtown Utica at 171 Genesee Street. The reception venue had an industrial feel and the oldest operating Otis elevator in the world. We had the whole building for the day—2nd floor was the bridal suite, 4th floor was for cocktail hour, and the 5th floor was where our reception was held. With floor to ceiling windows, the natural light and views of downtown were second to none. We took full advantage of our hometown as we road around in a trolly to take our photos. The reception was filled with dancing—my dad and I kicked it off with a surprise choreographed dance after out father daughter dance. Once the dancing started my husband and I never left the dance floor! One of our favorite memories of the day was dancing and laughing with our family and friends! The day would not have been as perfect as it was without the help and love from our families and all of our friends.
