Lucas made the day of the proposal a day of pampering for me. He took me for breakfast – blueberry pancakes and mimosas – followed by a manicure/pedicure. Later in the afternoon, as we were getting ready to go out for a fancy dinner, he ducked out of the house to “grab something from the car.” I learned later that this was when he called my parents to get their blessing. As we approached our favorite steakhouse, I was almost certain the big moment was coming. We arrived early for our reservation, so we decided to go enjoy the view of New York City from across the Hudson. I was blabbering on about the boats and water, and when I turned to look at him, he was on one knee and asked me to marry him! Of course, I said yes! I was blown away by the custom engagement ring he had designed himself. It’s the perfect symbol of our geeky love. We topped off the night with a delicious steak dinner and phone calls to our closest family and friends.
About the Dress
Designer:
Madison James //
Kleinfeld Consultant:
Sarah
My Kleinfeld consultant, Sarah, totally nailed the dress on the first try, and I did not give her an easy task. I knew I wanted a dress that was a bit untraditional. My dream was to be able to incorporate my favorite color, blue, but in a way that felt modern and chic. On top of that, my budget was not huge. My Madison James dress was the first one she brought into the room, and I knew it was the one. But Sarah still made the decision difficult – in a good way! She pulled a number of other dresses that were also unique and stunning! It was a really special experience for me to be able to find my dress at Kleinfeld with my parents.
About the Wedding
Married:
June 18, 2016 //
Location:
Long Island City, New York //
Venue:
Museum of the Moving Image
Our wedding was amazing! Our theme was geek chic, and the Museum of the Moving Image could not have been more perfect. The modern, stunning architecture was reminiscent of a spaceship! The theater and exhibits reflected our love of film, television, and gaming. Oh and Yoda was at our wedding! Throughout the night, guests were able to explore the museum. There was a flipbook station where guests could create a flipbook to take home with them at the end of the night. There was also a classic arcade game exhibit which was a huge hit. We love that we were able to provide our guests with an experience unlike any other wedding most of them had ever attended.
