Johnny proposed to me at the ideal moment and when I was least expecting it. I was having a hard day and he recommend that we go on a long drive. We were on Michigan Avenue when he claimed to be lost due to the street closures for Lollapolooza.

The streets being closed had forced him to drive to the museum campus. We walked to the Adler Planetarium and we admired the skyline from their terrace.

I mentioned that the Crain Building, which is shaped like a diamond, is my favorite Chicago architectural landmark. He suddenly dropped to his knee, said “speaking of diamonds,” and pulled out the ring box! It was the most romantic and spontaneous gesture. It took me completely by surprise.

I didn’t have a set idea about the kind of dress I wanted. The only thing I knew was that it had to have lace. Looking at Kleinfeld’s impressive online collection, I was able to select my favorites.

I had a blast trying on my dresses with Lisa. My bridal party and my mom were there virtually. My maid of honor and bridesmen came with me!

For someone who didn’t have any ideas about her dream wedding dress, it was such an incredible moment when I tried on my final dress. When I stepped out, everyone reacted so enthusiastically to the very last one. Lisa gave me a head piece to complete my look. It was at that moment that I knew I had to go for the Hortense by Vera Wang!

Our wedding was at the Adler Planetarium which was the same place where Johnny proposed! The planetarium holds a special place in our hearts and we wanted to celebrate at a place that brought us so much joy.

It was kismet because they happened to have an opening for a July wedding which is the exact time we were hoping to have our ceremony. We planned for two years through the pandemic which made our big day on July 8th highly anticipated and so special. I’m originally from India and weddings are very colorful when it comes to attire and decor. Our theme was pastel rainbow. We incorporated stunning hints of rainbow in pastel tones throughout our decor and bridal party attire.

Our ceremony was held right on the waterfront and I had my closest relatives from India present along with all of Johnny’s relatives from the States. Being able to share that day with both of our families made it the perfect celebration.
