Your planning is complete, your bags are packed, and your wedding day is right around the corner. Before you step into your dress for photos and walk down the aisle, there’s one important step to take the night before—properly preparing your gown.
Here’s how to ensure your dress looks its best.
Let Wrinkles Release
Whether you picked up your dress or had it shipped, it arrives carefully packed to maintain its shape. However, some wrinkles may form during transit.
The night before your wedding, hang your dress high off the ground in a clean, safe space. Unzip the garment bag and remove the plastic covering so the fabric can breathe. If your gown has a train, release it from the hanger and let it fall naturally. This will help any wrinkles relax on their own.
Take Out and Steam Your Veil
Your veil is typically stored behind your dress inside the garment bag. Remove it and hang it separately to prevent creasing.
If you have access to a steamer, lightly steam your veil and allow it to hang in a safe place until you’re ready to wear it.
Review Your Bustle
Once your train is released, take a few moments to revisit your bustle. Depending on the style, it may include buttons and loops, ties, or both.
If possible, review this with the person who will help you bustle your dress on the wedding day. A quick refresher will make the process much smoother later on.
Give Your Train a Final Steam
After checking your bustle, gently steam your train if needed. Be sure to do this carefully and allow the fabric to rest afterward in a clean, protected space.
Consider Your Hanger
Your dress is typically hung on a sturdy hanger designed to support its weight. While it’s best to keep it on this hanger overnight, you can switch to a decorative hanger the morning of your wedding for photos.
Taking these simple steps the night before your wedding will help ensure your gown looks flawless when it matters most.
